Third Grade Student Madison Yauger is a Can Do Kid
Mill Valley, CA, (February, 2005.)
We have all heard inspirational stories about the seemingly impossible achievements of everyday people. Armed with little more than a "can-do attitude," they explored, created, or invented their way into achieving their goals and dreams. For these people, 80% of their achievement was attitude and the two most powerful words in their vocabulary are "I can!"
San Jose Episcopal Day School student, third grader Madison Yauger, along with visiting third grader Sarah Luster from Mill Valley, CA read to two San Jose Episcopal Day School first grade classes the new book, I Can Do Anything!
Sarah Luster and her family wrote the book to inspire readers, adults and children alike, to live the can-do credo: "I am a CAN DO KID and I CAN DO anything!"
"Like the book, The Little Engine That Could, the power of a positive attitude needs to be instilled early and often. If the first words your child can read are "I CAN" - what a great beginning!" says Sarah's mom, Deborah Luster.
Madison aptly assisted Sarah in reading and handing out Can Do Kid stickers. Madison says, "The whole experience of reading to the younger kids was great! You should have seen the faces of each first grader when we handed them a Can Do Kid sticker."
The illustrated book has broad appeal, depicting Can-Do kids of all ages, colors and sizes. Their personal stories are as familiar, and yet unique, as those of all American families. A donated copy of the book was given to Reverend Jean C. Dodd, Principal, San Jose Episcopal Day School, as a special thanks to the School for allowing Madison and Sarah to take part in the event.
